Back in early May, Grandma and Grandpa Crumrine came to visit with an early birthday present. Grandpa C had a heavy hand in this year's theme, much to Katelyn's delight. I don't have pictures of it, but there was a practice session on how to cast in the basement before we went to the park. I was surprised at how well she did. It helped the Dora rod came with a plastic fish to practice with and that Grandpa C planned ahead and had sinkers, bobbers and everything else she'd need in her own tackle box along with her fishing bucket.
We went to the park with a fishing pond and Grandpa C helped her get ready and pick the first choice of bait.

Then she started fishing with expert supervision.

She was more patient than I expected. She asked a lot of questions. We kept seeing fish jump, but never where her line was.

Finally! A fish! There were 2 fish before this caught by Grandpa, but Katelyn had to take a break to swing. She came back to a Grandpa who had figured out how to catch Hilliard fish. A little cake, a little pink lure to fit tiny mouths with a little worm and you're a success! Katelyn's first fish! Caught with just a little bit of help.
The day's total: 3 fish (all returned to the pond)

Katelyn celebrates her first fish.
Expert fisherman, Grandpa C, overcomes fish with tiny mouths that prefer cake to normal fish bait and a small Dora fishing pole to celebrates his 2,463rd fish...or something near there!
