Yes, that's our dining room. The previous owners kept their dog in the dining room, and dog pee had permeated the carpet and subfloor. The only way to effectively get rid of the smell was to take it all out. This is before it was all pulled out. You can see the line at the left where it was cut.
Dad discusses strategy with Katelyn. Instead of simply unscrewing the subfloor panels and easily pulling them out, he had to use the circular saw and cut them out due to tongue and groove joints. Katelyn, with her hands over her ears for emphasis, tells him it's going to be loud. She was right.It was also dusty. I was glad I didn't sweep and mop the day before. I was not glad I had dusted the day before. In fairness, Chris really thought it would be a quick, non-dirty job of just unscrewing the panels. Although, we've done enough home projects that we should have known better. It always takes at least 3 times as long as you estimate with other 'issues' along the way. One such fun discovery was that these panels were glued to the joists. No squeaks, but a good bit of chiseling to get it all off.
Here's the floor now. Obviously, a temporary fix. He has plywood already and just needs to cut it to fit, so it won't be this way for too long. Then we get to go carpet shopping. Or get a big throw rug. : )
