Visiting the Irwins in Indiana - July 2009

We went to visit the Irwin side of the family in Indiana this past weekend. It went really well. Both kids traveled well, slept well in the various locations, and we all had a good time.

We stopped at Grandma Irwin's first and had good visit that included a fun trip to a nature center and park.
Some serious puzzle construction occurred as well.
Matthew was there too. He's the one who is supposed to be napping here, but Dad seems to have taken over that task!
The next day we drove down to visit Grandpa Steve and Abi Dorothea. Matthew wasn't fussy, but he needed a nap. He fought it until he found Abi's comfy shoulder.
Daddy felt he needed a nap too.
Mommy felt he should talk to Matthew instead.
We also learned that Katelyn likes the water. Swimming lessons last year were fairly unsuccessful, but she had no fear of the lake. She had a blast in the water and took to paddling around very, very well.

Matthew got all suited up briefly too. The life vest was a bit constricting, but we dropped him (gently) in the water, and he didn't complain even though he looked really uncomfortable.
Matthew and Mommy retreated to the deck and more comfy attire. Abi joined us too. Matthew liked the company and the new deck.

The next day we drove down to Bloomington, IN for Cousin Grayson's 4th birthday party. Aunt/Mom Kelly knew the suspense would be too much, so opening presents happened first. I thought it was a great idea. Katelyn was a bit melancholy because she wanted to do the unwrapping. (Note little Scarlett sitting on Kelly's leg. I thought that was cute - she wanted to be part of the action too.)
This birthday had a pirate theme and an awesome cake. It was almost to cool to eat, but we did anyway. It tasted pretty good too.

The morning after the party, Aunt Kelly displayed her skills as a professional educator and caregiver.
We all took a walk to a nearby park later that morning. We spent some time at a playground but down a path there was also a creek. I think the kids had the most fun here.

Remember how hard it was to walk on rocks? They both did a good job.

The gift bag from pirate party came with an eye patch. We had fun with that.

The contemplative pirate.

"Argh!"

"Land ho?"Thanks to everyone that hosted us. We all had a great time and look forward to seeing you again soon!
